The investment will involve increasing the number of datacenters in Australia from 20 to 29, a 45% increase, across Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Microsoft also plans to support the training of 300,000 Australians in “digital economy” occupations and share more information on cybersecurity threats. This investment was announced a day into Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s four-day visit to the US and is expected to be high-profile during the state dinner hosted by President Biden at the White House. The recent Aukus agreement between the US, UK and Australia means that the countries will collaborate more closely in the AI, quantum computing, military intelligence and more.
