A 17-year-old girl in Australia has been accused of stabbing a talented motocross rider to death but had to be treated herself for cuts and bruises after being taken into custody.
Emergency workers responded around 1 a.m. Saturday to calls from a home in Mildura, a city about 350 miles northwest of Melbourne.
They reportedly found Seb O'Halloran, 18, with stab wounds. Workers tried to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene, according to Australia's 7News.
A friend told the Herald Sun that O'Halloran had been spending the evening with pals at a local nightclub when he suddenly left the establishment.
He met up with the 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old male and may have tried to break up a fight between the pair.
O'Halloran reportedly knew both of the teens, but it's unclear why he showed up at the home — and why he was attacked.
Both the girl and boy were initially arrested after the incident, but only the girl was charged with murder.
Eric Woulfe, O'Halloran's close friend, told Australian outlet The Age that O'Halloran was one of the "toughest blokes" he'd ever met.
“But also the kindest most caring person to be around at the same time. He never had nothing but time for his mates, a near perfect person,” he said.
The teen girl appeared in Children's Court on Sunday afternoon. Her next court date is set for November 9, per the Herald Sun.
A GoFundMe has so far raised more than $23,000 for O'Halloran's father, Mark.
"Anyone who knew [O'Halloran] loved his personality, cheeky ways, his passion for motocross, hard work ethic and love for his family and friends," the organizers wrote.
The teen was an accomplished motocross rider who recently competed in the Hattah Desert Race, known as "Australia's largest desert race," according to the Daily Mail.
“Words can’t comprehend how good of a person he was,” Woulfe added in an interview with 7News. "No one’s perfect, but he was the closest you could get to it."
